Carnanelly Circuit

Start: Goles Forest Carpark

OS Sheet: 13 (1:50) or Sperrins Activity Map (1:25)

Finish:  Goles Forest Carpark

Grade: A

Distance: A - 10.5K (6.5 miles)

Walking Time: 4 hours

Ascent: High Point 562m

The Carnanelly Circuit is mixture of forest track, mountain heath and short road section near the end. The walk starts from the car park at the entrance of Goles Forest just off the Glenelly Road. The track is followed west to it’s boundary with Slievenamaddy. The route then follows onwards to Caranelly’s summit. The summit area allows fantastic views across to Sawel, Dart and the ‘Mullaghs’, south and west towards Mullaghcarn near Gortin and Cuilcagh mountain on the Fermanagh - Cavan border and northwest towards the Derryveagh mountains in Donegal. Walkers will skirt the outside of the forested area before beginning a fairly long descent into the Glenelly valley, crossing the Glenelly river before joining the main Glenelly Road. A short walk east will bring the walkers to the Goles Stone Row just off the road on the left. From here it is a short road walk back to the carpark where the bus will await to ferry walkers back to the Burnavon.  BOOK NOW
